DE GUZMAN JOINS SWANSEA

Swansea benefited hugely from the loan deal of midfielder Jonathan de Guzman last season. The player arrived on a season long loan deal from Spanish club Villarreal, and it is understood that Swansea are in talks with Villarreal over bringing back the player on yet another loan deal. Swansea chairman Jenkins has said that he has met with the player’s agent, who has expressed that his clients interest in coming back to the Liberty stadium. It remains to be seen if Villarreal will be interested in sending player out on loan at a time when they could use him.

The club was recently promoted back into the Spanish top-flight after spending last season in the second division. One of the main reasons for sending de Guzman on a loan deal was their inability to afford the wages of the player. Now that they are back in the top flight, they would want to have all the quality in the team as possible. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best midfielders within the Villarreal team. He made 45 appearances for the Premier league outfit last season and scored eight goals. He also helped the club to win the Capital One cup as well.

“I have met with Jonathan’s agent and he is comfortable with where we are at. Hopefully we can tie something up with Villarreal soon. We are optimistic about that happening,” said the Swansea chairman in a recent interview. Swansea are hoping to at least replicate the impressive season they had last time around in which they not only won the trophy, but they also finished in ninth position. Swansea manager Michael Laudrup, though, has said that it would be extremely difficult for the club to match the achievements let alone overtake those achievements.
