Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has admitted that the impressive partnership Alvaro Morata has formed alongside compatriot Cesc Fabregas in the early part of his Premier League career.
The Spain international joined the west London giants from Real Madrid earlier last month, and he has since made an immediate impact with two goals and two assists in his opening three league outings.
Morata has several of his fellow countrymen present at Stamford Bridge, but he has struck up an impressive bonding with Fabregas in particular if last weekend’s match is anything to go by. Writing in the Blues’ official website, Nevin was particularly impressed by their coordination on the field after Morata setup Fabregas’ opener against Everton in a role reversal of what many fans would have predicted.
He wrote: “From the moment Morata arrived I have been waiting for the understanding between Alvaro and Cesc to grow. It was maybe a slight surprise however when the assist for the first goal came from the former and the finish from the latter, but it doesn’t matter either way. This is something I can confidently predict we will see much more of as the season progresses. Antonio Conte will know the importance of these sorts of links as it has been a feature of Italian football for many decades.” Continue reading Chelsea legend excited by Alvaro Morata, Cesc Fabregas partnership
Jose Mourinho never shies away from giving a fitting reply to his critics or to his counterparts who dare try to make fun of him and recently was one such occasion where he was at it again.
The story started with Antonio Conte talking about the tragic campaign that the Blues had had in the Premiership during Mourinho’s last season in charge.
The season before that had actually been very successful for the Blues as Mourinho had guided them to the Premiership title, but, it was thereafter followed by a shocking season.
It was so bad that there were doubts at one stage if Chelsea could save its top division status or not because they didn’t have too big a lead over the teams at the 18th, 19th and 20th positions in the table mid-way through the season.
But the caretaker head coach Guss Hiddink who was put on the hot seat after the removal of Mourinho stabilised the sinking ship and ensured Chelsea’s participation in the top division the following season. Continue reading Jose Mourinho ever Ready to Reply to Critics
Ever since Marouane Fellaini joined Manchester United in the summer raid of 2013 just after Alex Ferguson’s last season at the club, it is safe to say that till now, mixed and divided opinions is what you will get from United’s fans should a popularity sample be taken on the Belgian’s behalf.
This is a result of an equally divided performance of his for the past four years. By all means the Belgian do not fall short of what can be referred to as a fine player, leaving one to wonder just why and how, four years down the drain, the 29-year old had to hang on the thread bear of being a“Mourinho’sfavourite soldier” to sign an extension of his stay at old Trafford.
Fellaini’s problems started the moment he became forced to play as a defensive midfielder as opposed to his preferred attacking midfield position which he very well excels in without much stress.
Mourinho’sarrival have illuminated the Belgian’s importance which before now was seen as only the act of using his height to break and chest down David de Gea’s long passes, enabling United to control the swing of games.Under, Mou has him seen done more, given the coach’s love for physicality, something the former Everton midfield has in boundless proportions given his build. Former Chelsea manager GuusHiddink has given valuable suggestions to former Chelsea and Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba.
The manager who has managed Chelsea in two different periods said that Didier Drogba is a great player and that he is always looking for input to improve himself.
He said that Drogba is a team player and that he was always looking to help the team and that he had to make changes in his playing style if he wanted to improve.
GuusHiddink said that Drogba was often dropping into midfield in order to win the ball and as a result, he was not putting enough pressure on the opposition defence.
Hiddink said that at that time Chelsea had players such as Obi Mikel, Ballack and Essien and that he did not have to drop back deeper.
The manager stated that he asked Drogba to keep his place and to wait for his teammates to pass the ball to him. He believes that this has improved the striker dramatically and that has helped him score more goals. Continue reading Hiddink on Drogba
The KCOM Stadium might remain mostly empty during the next Cup game as the Tigers supporters have planned not to go and watch the encounter against Swansea.
The reason behind the plan is the dismissal of the head coach Mike Phelan who was told to leave last week.
The supporters are of the view that the owners first have to facilitate the coach in his work in every way possible and then only can they ask for an account of the performances from him.
In case of Phelan, he did not have a proper support staff, he did not have a big enough playing group, he did not have a truckload of money either to elongate the squad in just a week or two that was left in the window when he took over. So, what was the expectation from him in such condition?
It was already known that there would be loses in the first half of the season. In fact whichever game Hull has saved this season is a kind of a bonus because they have walked into each and every game being the underdogs. Continue reading Tigers supporters boycott the Cup Game
Kevin Bru has disclosed his experience at Clairefontaine and how it has shaped his career till date.
The Town midfielder recalled his time playing in his home country before his switch.
“It is a very, very good school for football. There were 1000 kids from Paris who had a test, a trial, and they picked only 23. I was one of them and I spent three years there, which was a very good time for me. In the French U19 team, I played with Etienne Capoue, who was with Tottenham and then moved to Watford this year. I also played with Bakary Sako, now with Crystal Palace after a time at Wolves, and Moussa Sissoko of Newcastle,” Bru said.
The Paris-born star was among the elite players that Clairefontaine academy, Le Centre Technique National Fernand Sastre, trained. The center has been a great launching pad for many of today’s top football French stars. Notable ones are Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka and Louis Saha. Going from winning the Premier League to finishing at the 10th spot in the following season is not an easy thing to take in and this is exactly what happened with Chelsea as they won the English League during the season of 2014-15 and in the next season, they had to settle with a place on the middle section of the top tier league.
Even with this huge downfall that Chelsea has recently suffered, Antonio Conte is determined to bring back the Chelsea of a few years ago, the Chelsea that managed to win big European titles.
“Juventus hadn’t won the title for many, many years and at the start it did not appear easy. Confidence was low and the players didn’t trust themselves. It’s important to work in that situation and I remember we worked very hard.We can see a bit of the same situation now, no?
“After a bad season, 10th place was no good for the players, confidence was low and the fans weren’t happy with this situation but I know only one word that we must follow and that is to work, and to work very hard. If we stay together, in bad and in good situations, very, very soon we will try to go back to playing for the title.” Chelsea’s Antonio Conte said.
