The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that his side easily produced the best football of the season in the 3-0 win over Newcastle United during the weekend. Manchester United were coming into the match after being defeated by Tottenham at Old Trafford last weekend. There were many similarities between the defeat they suffered against Tottenham and this fixture, with the only difference being the winning team at the end of the match. Newcastle were the 3-0 winners last season, but it was the red Devils who managed to take all the three points this time around.
Speaking after the match, the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that it was extremely crucial that his side showed the ability to bounce back from the defeat they suffered last weekend. He also praised the performance of his team by saying that it was the best they have played this season. Ferguson also expressed his surprise at the number of set piece goals scored in the match. Despite having a very strong team in the set pieces, Newcastle United allowed Manchester United to take a two-goal advantage through corners alone in the first half. An impressive strike from Tom Cleverley confirmed all three points in the second half.
“It was a great result. To come here and win 3-0 against a really powerful, aggressive Newcastle team, you have to make sure you really perform and keep control of the game and I think we did that most of the time. Although the second half against Tottenham we were terrific, but the first half spoiled the whole day. Whereas today I thought the whole game we were on top of our game,” said Ferguson after the match. Manchester United are now in the second place in the Premier league table.
